Poetry Sydney partners with Since I Left You (SILY) to present poetry evenings featuring three poets on the third Tuesday of every third month, at a Sydney heritage venue located between three historical storehouses in the CBD.

pie in the sky poets: EAT . LIVE . FLY is a quarterly poetry event held on the third Tuesday of every third month.  The reading is a platform for guest curators and facilitators of poetry events in greater Sydney.  The events are host to three feature poets and an open-mic supported by SILY.

The series provides a spotlight on Australian heritage and literary culture, each event features three poets, who nominate an Australian poet of their choice and read/perform a selection of their poems.  To register for the opening reading, you will need to confirm a ticket, then email: mail@poetrysydney.org
 
pie in the sky poets is in the spirit of the Flying Pieman, William Francis King, who peddled his pies the streets of Sydney delivering impromptu public orations on the pies he had for sale and the politics of the day in the late nineteenth century. Known as the Flying Pieman he devised all manner of opportunities for public entertainment on the urban inner city pedestrian thoroughfares capturing the imagination of chroniclers and artists at the time in Sydney. *
 

The reading event is a continuation from a series of six events held in association with the York Clarence Kent Laneways (YCKL) Block activation project under the direction of the precinct President and Manager of SILY.

Or/Awe/Australia: three contemporay poets read, respond and rework Australia's poetic history

Curator: Dave Drayton was an amateur banjo player, founding member of the Atterton Academy, and the author of British P(oe)Ms (Beir Bua), E, UIO, A: a feghoot (Container), A pet per ably-faced kid (SOd Press), P(oe)Ms (Rabbit), Haiturograms (SOd Press) and Poetic Pentagons (Spacecraft Press). 

Lily Cameron is a writer and editor working on unceded Gadigal Land. She is a UTS Master of Arts (Creative Writing) student and works as a Marketing & Publicity Executive at Simon & Schuster Australia.
Eric Jiang is a Chinese-Australian writer/director based in Sydney. Their practice spans poetry, short fiction, film and theatre, while contemplating queer futures, family and friendship. Their poetry appears in Liminal, Cordite, Going Down Swinging, and more.
Luke Patterson is a Gamilaroi poet, educator and musician living on Gadigal lands. His poetry has appeared in Cordite, Plumwood Mountain, Rabbit, Running Dog and The Suburban Review. Luke’s research and creative pursuits are grounded in extensive work with First Nations and other community-based organisations across Australia.

Just before Cathy Bray’s 2014 show LATITUDE PLATITUDE, Toby Fitch introduced her at his AVANT GAGA poetry reading at Sappho’s Bookshop in Glebe, as ‘the poet and satirist Cathy Bray’. Bray went on to win the POETRY AND SPOKEN WORD award at the Sydney Fringe that year and has become a serial offender, writing and performing in 6 Fringe shows : in 2010 MAD WOMAN’S BREAKFAST. EAT MY BUSH! at Madam Fling Flong in Newtown; in 2011 POET TREE at The Sound Lounge, Seymour Centre, Chippendale; in 2012 INAPPROPRIATE at Madam Fling Flong; in 2013 NO FIXED ADDRESS at The Hive Bar in Erskineville; in 2014 LATITUDE PLATITUDE at The Record Crate in Glebe and in 2017 CHILDISH in The Terminal at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville. In 2019 she was scouted to become one of the Fringe’s resident “Judge Judys”, where she reviewed and nominated 15 shows in 11 different venues across the Sydney Fringe. Daniel Ioniță, is an Australian poet and translator of Romanian origin. He has had his own work published in both his native Romania as well as Australia and the USA. Daniel has been published in bilingual anthologies as a principal translator and editor of volumes such as Testament – 400 Years of Romanian Poetry, a comprehensive collection of Romanian poetry in English from its origins until today. This volume won the most important translation award in Romania, for representing Romanian literature into a foreign language, the Antoaneta Ralian Prize awarded by the International Bookfair Gaudeamus-Bucharest 2019. Other such anthologies include The Bessarabia of My Soul, a representation, also in English, of poets from the Republic of Moldova (for which Daniel was awarded the Poetry Prize of the Literature & Art magazine in the Republic of Moldova – 2018), and Return Ticket from Sydney to Bistrita, A Lyrical Carousel between the Antipodes. His latest collection, Pentimento, has recently been published by Interactive Publications earlier this year. Daniel is the current president of the Australian-Romanian Academy for Culture.
Oormila Vijayakrishnan Prahlad is an Indian-Australian artist, poet, and improv pianist who serves as an editor for Authora Australis. She holds a Masters in English, and is a member of the North Shore Poetry Collective. Her works have been published internationally in both print and online magazines and anthologies including Cordite Poetry Review, Black Bough Poetry, Bracken Magazine, and Eunoia Review. Her artworks have been featured on the covers of several magazines including Amsterdam Quarterly Yearbook, Stonecoast Review, West Trestle Review, and the Lumiere Review. She won the 66th Moon Prize awarded by Writing in a Woman’s Voice Journal, and her work was long listed for the 2022 Dai Fry Award for Mystical Poetry (Wales). She has been nominated for the 2022 Pushcart Prize, and six times for the Sundress Best of the Net awards. She is the author of three digital micro-chapbooks published by Origami Poems Project (US). She is currently working on her debut full-length, which will be published in 2024. She lives and works in Lindfield, on traditional land of the Eora Nation. Website: www.poetry.oormila.com
